In Indonesia, a man recently celebrated what he claimed to be his 146th birthday. If the record is legitimate, he could break the world record as the oldest person to have ever lived. The record is currently held by Jeanne Calmet, who was 122 when she died.

Mbah Gotho, the recent birthday boy, showed his ID card which in fact states that he was born on 31 December 1870. The Indonesian records office confirmed the accuracy of the date.

One would think this age would keep someone lying in bed, but Mbah is far from being that sedentary and was even able to blow out his candles on the first try.

Mbah spent his birthday celebration with some neighbors, but his special guests were his grandson Suryanto and wife Suwarni along with two of his great-grandchildren. It has been reported he outlived all 10 of his siblings, four of his wives, and all of his children.

Of course, the most expected question he received that day was about his secret to being able to live such a long time. His humble answer was, “The recipe is just patience.”

However, despite his official ID reporting his date of birth, the documents currently cannot be independently verified therefore have not gone into the record books.
