Chinese flight passenger opens the emergency exit
China’s leading airlines are teaming up to take a stand against troublesome passengers. The airlines, which include AirChina, China southern and Spring Air have seen a recent rise in Chinese passengers causing a commotion, blocking exits, mistreating staff and causing delays.
Recently a flight from Chengdu to Urumqi was delayed for up to an hour while staff worked tirelessly to rectify the commotion caused by a middle aged Chinese man.
Apparently the man, a first time flyer, believed that the handle on an emergency door was in fact used to roll down windows and let in some fresh air, despite multiple instructions and warnings on the door itself.
The airline said the man “did not cause delays or any other direct loss to the airline”, he has not caused any un-repairable damage or acted in a malicious manner. While many passengers expressed frustration we will not ask the airport police to become involved.
While the man’s actions may seem crazy to some, let’s just be thankful he had the sense to cause a problem when the plane was still touching tarmac.
It seems the Chinese have a tendency to ignore flight warnings, in the first half of 2015, 15 cases of passenger opened emergency doors was reported.
In another case of misbehaved Chinese flyers, an emergency slide was deployed by a man in a rush; his reasoning was that he wanted to exit the plane quicker.
