As someone who has received their fair share of electric shocks over the years, let me be the first to tell you – electricity is not something to be taken lightly. Okay, sure, you probably already knew that, but what you might not know is that the horrific shocking feeling you get as a high current passes through your body isn’t the same for everyone.

16-year-old Deepak Jangra first noticed his unusual ability after an attempt to fix his mother’s heater introduced him to several thousand volts. After getting sparks from touching a wire he shouldn’t have and realizing he was just a human conductor at that moment, Deepak was surprised to find he felt no pain or seizing, the most common indicators of heavy shocks.

Since then, Deepak has learned that he can withstand up to 11,000 volts without feeling the effects of the current. As to why, so far no one knows. Deepak himself says his ability is nothing more than a gift from God, though scientists remain bafflingly unconvinced by this argument, claiming whatever it is that allows the boy to survive these shocks is not something that should be taken lightly.

Whatever the cause, let’s hope that Deepak doesn’t overextend himself.
