Tis the Season to Light Up!
Tourists and locals enjoy visits to Shinjuku—a district home to giant fashion brands, coffeehouse chains, and restaurants. It’s the perfect place for fashionistas and foodies, alike. But, Shinjuku transforms into a beautifully illuminated city. One of its main events is the Shinjuku Terrace City Illumination. It’s an annual display of luminescent and effervescent lights in mid-November until mid-February.
The Main Attractions
Shinjuku Terrace City a one-kilometer commercial zone filled with a medley of posh restaurants, coffee shops, and fashion brands. You can’t possibly run out of things to do in the area. But no experience is complete without immersing yourself in the beauty of Christmas-light-clad areas of the Shinjuku Terrace City. This year’s theme remains a surprise but last year took inspiration from the infamous the cherry pink, cherry blossoms of Japan.
Regardless of the theme, you shouldn’t dare miss these festive locations!
Shinjuku Southern Terrace
A popular choice for lovers and hopeless romantics, the 350-meter walkway is filled with lights throughout the event transforming the shopping and gastronomic district into a magical trail. Mosaic Street
The small stretch from MYLORD to Odakyu Department Store is a fave among tourists. The ceiling filled with twinkling lights and bright lamp decors in all shapes and sizes make for Instagram-worthy photos and videos. We bet you can’t resist taking a snap or two once when you see these lights in action.
Fun Fact
Every sing LED light used during the event is powered by renewable energy resources as part of Japan’s energy conservation measures.
