Blue jeans have been a trendy fashion for as long as most of us have been alive. It’s sometimes really difficult to throw out your favorite pair of blue jeans even though they’re definitely ready for the trash bin.

Ever since it became very trendy to wear blue jeans that have rips and tears, you’ve been able to hold onto your jeans longer. But even so, they can’t last forever.

Some people cut the legs off their jeans and use them as shorts.

Others have found ways to use their old jeans in unique ways. For example, in one home they’re used as flower pots as in the photo at the top. Some even make purses out of their old jeans.

But leave it to the Japanese to come up with a new angle all together. The Onomichi Denim Project (ODP) is a chic boutique that meets the high standards of discerning jeans junkies by selling them pre-worn jeans at more expensive prices than a new pair. Prices go from 24,800 yen ($250) to 48,000 yen ($500).

Everyone has always known that it’s uncool to walk around in a pair of jeans that is obviously brand new. Everyone knows that new jeans need to be broken in before they’re really comfortable and look like they belong to wearer.

ODP knows this and has included breaking-in before selling by having their jeans worn at least a year before being sold.

Now you probably think you can sell your pre-worn blue jeans to ODP. Not a chance. They use locals to wear the jeans and monitor the condition of each pair throughout the year of pre-wearing.

So you’ll just have to use one of the other methods mentioned above.
